Which Cryptocurrencies Are Supported By Ledger Wallet?

Several cryptocurrencies are supported by the Ledger wallet. For starters, it is one of the most popular hardware wallets, the other being Trezor. Hardware or cold store wallets provide one of the safest ways of storing your cryptocurrency. They are not connected to the internet and as such, the chances of a hacker gaining access to your private key is close to zero.

If you’ve decided to settle for one of these and Ledger in particular, then you need to know what the wallet offers and which cryptocurrencies are supported. A popular belief is that they are used to store Bitcoin which is not entirely true. They also support a wide range of crypto assets.

What is the Ledger Hardware Wallet?

The Ledger hardware wallet is a physical device that is used to store your private keys. They do not hold actually Bitcoin or any other currency because these are only stored as records on the blockchain. Usually, your private key is needed to approve transactions that are to be made from your wallet. Therefore, the ledger wallet safeguards the private key and provides a safe way for you to spend your crypto assets

The Ledger wallet are of different types and you can find the Ledger Nano X, Ledger Blue, Ledger Live, and Ledger Nano S. The latter, for instance, is reportedly certified by the French cybersecurity agency, ANSSI. It comes with a display screen with two buttons, both of which enables you to check your balance, send and receive payments.

The Ledger Nano S supported cryptocurrencies are over 1100 and as such, it can handle a wide range of coins out of about 2,171 on the market. That being the case, some of these coins include:

Bitcoin:

If there’s no other coin you’ll expect, then it shouldn’t be Bitcoin. It is the first cryptocurrency that was supported by the Ledger wallet.

Ethereum:

It is worthy to note that you do not have to rely on only MyEtherWallet to store your Ether tokens, Ledger also offers support for the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

XRP:

XRP is currently the third largest cryptocurrency based on its market cap of over $13 billion. Investors can send their XRP to the Ledger wallet.

Bitcoin cash:

Bitcoin cash is a forked version of Bitcoin that is also supported by the ledger wallet.

You can also check the official site for over 1,000 coins that are currently supported by the wallet. It is also worthy to note that most coins supported by the Nano S can also be stored on other variants of the Ledger wallet.
