The University of Tokyo now offers a Blockchain course that will run for three years. The course has been tagged, “Blockchain Innovation Donation Course,” and it began in November this year, to end in October 2021. This development is as a result of a 90 million yen (about $800,000) donation the school received from some organizations.
Japanese Bank and Other Organization Donate to University
The Japanese Banking company, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, was among those who made the donation. Their aim is to provide an environment for learning Blockchain technology as well as other entrepreneurial skills related to it. Therefore, students with mathematical skills who are motivated to be entrepreneurs have been given support.
It is also worthy to note that Ethereum Foundation made part of the donation. This is a non-profit organization that supports projects that are based on the Ethereum platform. Others who made the donation are Good Luck Three Co., Ltd., JS Es, ZIPPER Co., Ltd., Hotlink Co., and Money forward Inc.
Blockchain Course as Part of the Graduate School of Engineering
In a publication, the University revealed that the course will be part of the those offered in its graduate school of engineering. The school will provide an environment for “human resource discovery/development”, “technology development” and “social implementation”. This is made possible through research as well as an in-depth study of Blockchain with an inclusion of FinTech.
The university also stated that it will support students who are interested in Blockchain technology. There will be a social implementation of the technology in real life with the use of business models. This will help to outline the problems of the Blockchain and how to solve these problems. Also, ICT services that are related to virtual currency will be part of their study.
Top Universities in The World Offer Blockchain Related Courses
Recently, Coinbase carried out a study which reveals that about 42% of top universities in the world offer a crypto-related class. In line with that, Stanford University has a Blockchain Research Institute and it is one of the schools with the highest number of Blockchain-related courses. There is even a Blockchain online course at UC Berkeley.
This technology has not only been implemented in learning environments to encourage its widespread use, but the same is also the case in other industries. This includes the Banking industry, Construction, Farming, Entertainment, and even on online retail stores. In the case of the entertainment industry, the PlayStation 4 is about to get a new game that is based on the Ethereum platform.
