Users of DISH TV can now subscribe with their Bitcoin Cash to watch their favorite TV channels. This is made possible by BitPay, a cryptocurrency payment gateway which enables platforms to accept cryptocurrencies on their platforms. As the rate of merchants accepting cryptocurrency is increasing daily, and the use of cryptocurrency for a transaction is also increasing likewise. The acceptance is initiated through the integration of DISH TV with Bitpay. Bitcoin cash BCH is getting more preference for trade than most top cryptocurrency as digital currency sees more acceptance for transactions.
DISH TV now accepts Bitcoin Cash for a subscription
DISH TV joins millions of merchants that accept Bitcoin cash payment for transactions. The new acceptable form of payment is aided by BitPay, a crypto payment processor that plugs into several payment platforms.
DISH TV is an India’s Direct to Home television operator using MPEG-4, DVB-S2, and MPEG-2 digital compression technology.
The new development allows customers of the cable TV network make payments for access to several stations aired over the cable TV, using Bitcoin Cash. John Swieringa, DISH executive vice president states,
“We’ve added [Bitcoin BCH] just as we chose to accept [SegWit back in 2014,] to serve customers who have adopted a new way of doing business. We have a steady volume of customers paying with cryptocurrency each month, and BitPay will allow us to continue offering more choices and convenience to our customers.”
The new development from DISH TV is not new in the cryptocurrency world, as 49 million merchants globally now accept payment in Bitcoin Cash as a means of payment from customers through WordPress’s WooCommerce.
WooCommerce powers 28% of eCommerce site globally. In addition to BCH, merchants can also accept BTC, Ethereum (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC) directly from consumers. Coinbase exchange plugin aids the integration of cryptocurrency into portals using WooCommerce.
Sonny Singh, Chief Commercial Officer at BitPay, while speaking on the new integration with DISH TV, states,
“Our goal for DISH Network is a seamless transition to BitPay, so all customers who are currently paying for services with [SegWit] continue to have the option to pay with [Bitcoin]. Cryptocurrency is an increasingly popular way for consumers to make purchases online as it reduces credit card fraud and is cheaper for the merchants.”
So also in March, more than 100,000 BitPay merchants made a move to start accepting payments with Bitcoin Cash through its platform, making BitPay a home for Bitcoin Cash, though it plans to take other cryptos as a form of payment in the future as well.
As cryptocurrency hopes to get more acceptance and institution funds, there are speculations that in the next ten years cryptocurrency will only be the acceptable form of payment erasing fiat currency because of their low transaction cost and extremely fast confirmation time, such as Bitcoin Cash.
