Telegram Launches Passport, A Cloud Based Identification Service

A thing that has eluded most social networks, for now, is how to recognize if a person is really who he says to be. This difficulty creates a problem in authenticating accounts and identities for services that need a clear notion of knowing who is who, like online sales and virtually anything that has to to with fintech. But now, Telegram is trying to offer a solution by bringing to the table a simple, yet effective solution to these problems, introducing Passport.
Telegram Passport is a cloud-based app that will enable customers to be identified in the virtual world and enjoy the benefits of having all their documents under only one integrated service. Telegram claims that all the documents will be heavily guarded in the telegram cloud and that there will be protected in a vault where only you would have access to it via a password. Also, the users of this service will benefit from the famed end-to.end encryption that Telegram has for their messaging app.
While trusting your identification documents and data to any organization is a risk by itself, al least Telegram has a history of protecting the information of the users even in courts. In Russia, they faced the Russian state in courts because of the negative of giving the encryption keys to access messages from their users inside the Russian Federation. This resulted in a regional block f the app services, a thing that never functioned well.
While not being an open source solution, Telegram intention is that this service will be integrated for doing payments and associated services; that is why they offer the chance of integrating it freely with any app that needs it. Telegram has a great user base in promotion groups for Initial Coin Offerings too, so their services could also be used to verify IDs of customers that wish to invest in any one of these crowdfunding ventures.
Though no serious startup has announced that it will use this service, there is already a working implementation through a portal called ePayments, that shows how it works. An important launch from Telegram that capitalizes on the importance of being identified online in these times.
