Tanzanian Blockchain Community to Hold Blockchain Seminar in the Country

The Blockchain Tanzania Community has organized the first blockchain occasion in the nation; this event will hold at the University of Dar es Salaam, Mlimani, on June 30, 2018, between 10 AM and 1 PM UTC +3, Tanzanian time. The occasion will be a commencement seminar where Blockchain Tanzania will share its targets, vision, and mission with the general population and different partners. The blockchain community will also educate the attendees on advantages of blockchain technology.
According to their website “On this day we will share with the general public and other stakeholders our vision, mission and objectives of the community. We are also looking forward to other events on the same day that will be updated in due course. Thank you.” The Blockchain Tanzania Community plans to host experts, professionals, organizations, academicians, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders, for example, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA). The chairman of the organizing committee, Rutazaa announced that:

“As a community, we aspire to create an environment where youths will be inspired to engage and learn, investors favored to invest, and regulators encouraged to fairly regulate, so blockchain, for what it is, can revolutionize our country.”

Tanzania and East African Community’s Stance on Digital Currencies.
As an active member of the East African Community (EAC), Tanzania is joining the positions of other neighboring East African nations on blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, for example, Uganda and Kenya that are grasping blockchain innovation. Kenya already has working blockchain taskforce while Ugandan government recently announced that they plan to set up a blockchain taskforce in the country.   East African Community (EAC) consists of six partner countries namely Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan. The EAC aims to adopt a single currency that will be used by all countries in the region for a lengthy period, this single currency will harmonize their monetary and fiscal policies as well as their payment systems. However, the East African Community is wary of adopting cryptocurrency as EAC’s single currency because they believe it poses a threat. The Director of National Payment System at the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Mr. Bernard Dadi said that: “The objective of Bitcoin founders is quite different from that of Community Member States on establishing a single currency. As we’ve said, the process to have a single currency is still underway with consideration of available challenges including the growth of Bitcoin.”
