SONY To Build Blockchain Platform For Rights Management System

Sony, a giant tech firm announced recently in a press release of its plan to build upon its present blockchain system, utilizing it for rights management system.
Developing this new project on the existing blockchain will create a system that is aimed at easier verification of copyright-related information, especially for written work.
Also, this bold step would make the giant tech firm the latest firm to engage the blockchain technology for developing a rights management system. The new system will be an upgraded version of Sony’s blockchain platform which is specialized in authenticating, sharing, and rights management of educational data, and additionally features functionality for processing rights-related information.
The driving factor for building a blockchain system for right management system according to Sony is to improve on the feature of blockchain that allows everyone to broadcast and share contents. This would feature the act of management of the rights connected to contents, which is the role of the industry, organizations or the creators themselves.
Further, the new system being built by Sony will be a more efficient method for managing and demonstrating ownership of copyright-related information for written work. Example of this is the use of date and time stamps on all contents that goes through the system. According to Sony, booting the system will automatically verify the rights generation of a piece of written work which has been proven to be very difficult in the present template.
Initially, the system will be used for written works. However, it can be used for the right management of various kinds of digital contents inclusive of electronic textbooks and other educational content, music, films, VR content, and e-books as well.
The blockchain technology has become a vital feature of the present human society. Its application has been seen in every facet of human society.
Application to rights management by Sony showcases how vital the technology could be for settling contemporary problems of piracy among others.
The new system is a cooperate project of Tokyo, Japan – Sony Corporation (hereafter “Sony”), Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., and Sony Global Education. The Sony group, however, is more committed to exploring the possibilities that blockchain technology holds for the group’s diverse and business domain.
