Ross was sentenced to a double life sentence plus forty years without the possibility of parole in 2013. He was convicted of money laundering, computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic fraudulent identity documents, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics using the internet.
His sentence was considered harsh for his crimes by his family and sympathizers.
