Ross Ulbricht Marks Fifth Year in Prison As Plea For Clemency Continues

Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the dark web marketplace, Silk Road, marks the fifth year in prison. Ross was sentenced to a double life sentence plus forty years without the possibility of parole in 2013. He was convicted of money laundering, computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic fraudulent identity documents, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics using the internet.
His sentence was considered harsh for his crimes by his family and sympathizers. The darknet web marketplace which he created and operated from 2011 to 2013, before he was apprehended was considered a similar of E-Bay or any other, online market where sales and purchases are done. He founded the platform which only albeit illegal practices, which makes his sentence to be regarded as too extreme for a double life sentence and forty years without parole.
Effort has-been made to appeal his jail term. An attempt at this has failed, and his family has resulted in raising awareness of his offense and get clemency and pardon for him through the FreeRoss.org platform. At the moment over 80,000 have signed the petition for his release.
