Recent Fortnite And Monero Partnership Debunked

Fortnite recently revealed that they have no partnership yet with Monero and the payment method that the game featured was only an accident.

Fortnite And Monero Partnership

As earlier reported by media sites, Fortnite–world’s most famous game– has finally made its way to crypto adoption through the help of Monero tokens.

However, tables eventually turned, after the announcement became fake news. After Fortnite clarified that the game is not yet accepting Monero in an exchange with its merchandise products.

‘Just an Accident’

According to Fortnite Intel, Monero was accepted as a method of payment with the recently launched Retail Row merchandise store.

After a couple of days, the said partnership was revealed to be an ‘accident’ done due to some miscommunication with Fortnite’s partners.

Epic Games– the company that owns Fortnite– said that there had been no conversation yet on having any crypto partners– especially with the team of Monero. Though, the company is said to be interested in implementing cryptos soon.

“Many of us at Epic are big fans of the decentralized computing tech underlying cryptocurrency, however a lot more work is needed on volatility and fraud-proofing before bringing it to such a broad audience that includes younger gamers.”

An Epic Ending Of Monero-Fortnite Partnership

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, apologizes with their users and said that it was ‘not intentional’ for the company to confused its players, regarding Monero payment.

Moreover, the option of Monero payment method was also said to be quickly reverted by the team after they realized their mistake.

“Fortnite’s brief foray into crypto was accidental. We worked with a partner to open a merchandise store, and somewhere along the way Monero payment was enabled,” Sweeney tweeted.

Monero Developer Bashed Due To His Misinformation

Although Fortnite already apologized to their users, it was still being recalled that Monero’s developer Riccardo Spagni ‘confidently’ started the news of Fortnite-Monero partnership with his twitter account.

Spagni even said that Fortnite chose Monero over bitcoin due to its ‘lack of privacy’ and that having Monero as a payment method shows how crypto adoption is on its way.

Still, due to this misinformation, a lot of Fortnite and Monero users expressed their annoyance with both companies since there were no clarifications– for over a couple of days– that the news was not true at all.

The side of Monero’s management are still shut about the accident, but users are already bashing Spagni with his misleading information and its impact on Monero and Fortnite users.
