Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela, stated this morning that the Petro pre-sale was successful, raking in $735 million in just one day. This was shared via his Twitter account.
His tweet declares: “For big problems, big solutions! Since the first minute the game started well, and we started earning 4.777 million yuan, or 735 million dollars. This is the final score of the Petro ICO presale. #ToTheFutureWithPetro”
However, the ICO presale was plagued with inconsistencies and problems. The initial Petro whitepaper stated that it was an ERC20 ethereum token, but then at launch time, it was changed to a NEM related token. Maduro also did not comment about the source of the funding for the ICO and offered no further explanation about it.
This shows a positive answer of the market to a historical fact: the first official cryptocurrency sponsored by a country. And while many still have doubts about it, it seems that the first sale of the Petro was a blunt success.
