Patreon Suspends Adult Accounts Pressured By Banks And Payment Providers

Patreon, the popular membership subscription platform, has started to suspend accounts that come from sexual derived work, like adult performers or adult content creators that used this service to aggregate their revenue and collect it monthly, according to declarations of some members who had their accounts suspended recently, in an article published by the Motherboard magazine.
Patreon is one of the most trusted organizations for content providers in all the world. They offer their members monetization of their activities via subscriptions bought from the same site. Having more than 100K members, YouTubers, game streamers, musicians and even adult content creators enjoyed the intermediation services that this startup has provided them. But the latest developments have not been too good for the latter ones.
Sex content creators are being banned from the platform supposedly due to a new change of the Terms of Service document that forces out pornography or any act depicting nudity publicly on the website, but according to some sources, it looks like pressure exerted from banks and payment processors is what’s causing this. The photographer Kate Victoria declared that the censure is being ramped up till the erotic level, the kind of photography she does. Her account was suspended until further notice, and she has lost an important part of her monthly income.
Adult content creators were confident that the hell that banks and payment providers created for them outside of the platform, even going to the extremes of suspending banks accounts and seizing money, would not reach them inside it, because Patreon has fought Paypal and other payment processors over this before. But it seems that the pressure has been rising, and has forced them to conduct policy compliance checks that have resulted in numerous account suspensions.
This kind of development remarks the need for a decentralized payment network that does not depends on anyone policies to work, just the network itself. That is why more and more sex-related industries are starting to move their economic operations to cryptocurrencies, to avoid being censored just for their work; and have their money taken abruptly. This is another legit case for the use of cryptocurrencies that is being adopted as we speak, and may grow enormously in the future to be as big as the porn industry itself.
