Origin Protocol To Launch Decentralized Messaging App Of Ethereum Blockchain

The details of the messaging app were revealed by Micah Alcorn, an Engineer at Origin Protocol in a press release on medium.

The Origin Protocol Decentralized Messaging App and Importance

The origin protocol in a press release by Micah Alcorn an Engineer at Origin Protocol reveals the details of its new product. A decentralized messaging app aimed at creating a better-decentralized marketplace for its buyers and sellers.
The decentralized message app is created to facilitate better communication between the buyers and the seller. Micah stated that “…messaging is a critical component necessary to facilitate meaningful transactions. And while users are drowning in centralized options, we wanted a messaging system that was truly decentralized, encrypted end-to-end, persistent, real-time and auditable while still delivering a user experience as good as any centralized service.”
Micah further states that the desire to meet the demand of the marketplace has led to the creation of a solution that uses OrbitDB, a technology built on IPFS, and Ethereum wallets to handle the signing process.

Features of The Origin Decentralized Messaging App

The Dapp is open source. It also has an end to end encryption which makes it secure and privacy supportive.
The decentralized feature is supported by OrbitDB that is serverless, distributed and has a peer-to-peer database. Most messaging apps have a centralized server that can be compromised, but with its IPFS as its server storage.
It requires no gas cost, despite being built on the Ethereum platform, it is free to send and receive messages.
A persistent means of storage of data is available through its feature. Though still underway through the project Filecoin that will aid data storage forever.
Messaging on the platform is very fast and auditable. Conversation or dispute could be audited by a third party, only through the approval of one of the parties. The permission could be given without any form of disclosure of private keys. It is built on the Ethereum platform and can only be accessed with the Ethereum private keys.
The platform is easy to use and integrated with ERC-725 that aids identity management on the blockchain. It offers anonymity to users that choose not to validate their identity and connect it to their account.
Lastly, it is very extensible as it can be used to send multimedia contents and also transport machine-readable messages between dapps.

About Origin Protocol

The platform empowers developers and businesses to build decentralized marketplaces on the blockchain. The protocol makes it easy to create and manage listings for the fractional usage of assets and services. Buyers and sellers can discover each other, browse listings, make bookings, leave ratings and reviews, and much more through the platform.
