New Cryptocurrency Thriller "Crypto" Coming To The Big Screen

Cryptocurrencies are every time more and more depicted in popular media and culture, and it seems that this trend will not stop. According to an article from Hollywood Reporter, there is a new movie in development that depicts the world of cryptocurrencies in the big screen filming right now, called simply “Crypto”.
The movie is an indie endeavor, and it will be directed by John Stalberg Jr, with a surprisingly solid ensemble for an indie film. It will count on actors such as Beau Knapp, known from its performance on the film Southpaw, Alexis Bledel from the Gilmore Girls, Kurt Russel, the famous actor that starred as Ego in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol II, and Luke Hemsworth, known better from his role in HBO’s Westworld.
The movie is being filmed in New York, and the plot will revolve around the life of a crypto-detective with his family in dire straits, that gets tangled in a web of corruption involving art dealers, cyber enthusiasts and corrupt accountants laundering money through cryptocurrencies.
The producer, Yale Levine, acknowledged the relevance of cryptocurrencies in the contemporary world, declaring:

“CRYPTOCURRENCY HAS CAPTURED THE ATTENTION AND IMAGINATION OF CONSUMERS AND ENTREPRENEURS ALL OVER THE WORLD BUT HAS NEVER BEEN EXPLORED IN FILM IN SUCH A NUANCED AND EXCITING WAY”

This is not the first time that cryptocurrencies are included in big screen projects. A sony movie called Superfly, also mentions cryptocurrencies as a means of avoiding police intervention. The leading role expresses in the trailer that he exchanges cash for crypto, to redefine the hustle. Also, another movie that centrally deals with the theme of cryptocurrencies, albeit in a lighter tone, is Kevcoin. In this movie, the comedian Jason Attar depicts a character that while encountering himself in dire straits, decides to create his own cryptocurrency to raise money for himself.
Expect more movies like these in the future, starring cryptocurrencies as the main theme for the films in the near future. Crypto has no official release date, but filming with end in the coming months.
