Mysterious High-Tech Wall Street Trading Firm ‘Jane Street’ Now Trading Bitcoin

Just this week, the trading firm ‘Jane Street Capital’ dubbed by The New York Times as one of Wall Street’s most secretive investment companies, has announced that they will already be trading Bitcoin (BTC). Jane Street said in a statement that if cryptocurrencies continue to rise, they expect to be involved.
Jane Street is a trading firm which operates in New York City, London, and Hong Kong. The company actively trades around $8-13 billion worth of Equities, Bonds, Futures, Options and other investments. The daily trade execution of the company is reportedly at 1 million.
Arbitrage openings in the cryptocurrency industry, especially bitcoin, are appealing to firms such as Jane Street due to spreads being very high on different trading platforms. Jane Street has not yet disclosed any details on how it has been trading BTC but have explained that if cryptos continue to be a hot commodity, the company will remain active.
However, Jane Street is not the first well-known Wall Street firm who had been in the news for trading bitcoin or crypto-based exchange-traded notes and futures. At this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Goldman Sachs’ Lloyd Blankfein discussed that should their clients want to trade bitcoin, they will help facilitate it. The main difference between Jane Street and firms like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs  however, is that Jane Street uses the Ocaml programming language which helps the firm’s traders execute trades quickly under changing market conditions.
