Lufthansa Launches Challenge To Apply Blockchain To Airline Processes

Lufthansa, one of the most respected institutions in the world of airlines, has announced that they will be seeking to apply blockchain to the different aspect of the traveling process and for this, they will be offering prizes as a part of what they called a global blockchain challenge. The announcement was made via a new web page that defines this event and describes it.
Lufthansa, being one of the most important names in the airline world, firmly believes that blockchain is one of the most disruptive technologies that can really change the future; but it is also clear that blockchain tech, as it is today is heavily underused in the traveling industry where it has the potential to solve many problems. That is why they have partnered with SAP.io, a software and solutions company to open this contest to bring effective solutions to their processes.
The Global Blockchain Challenge will look for solutions in three key aspects of the traveling process: the airline challenge, that deals mostly with internal airlines processes like sharing info between partners; the traveler challenge, that will look to improve the traveler experience through the use of blockchain; and the supplier challenge, that has to do with integrating blockchain with the maintenance and parts to keep planes in the best operational state.
The challenge will consist of two phases: a preliminary one, where all projects will be presented via their webpage, and a second one where the most interesting projects and ideas will be selected to be presented in Germany to the team of Lufthansa. The first phase of the challenge will be open until August 31.
The prizes of the challenge consist of a potential pilot project to aid Lufthansa in the implementation of the proposed idea, and the travel expenses to be in their offices in Germany to do that. An important initiative from Lufthansa, recognizing the value and utility of blockchain for solving today’s problems.
