Atari became a household name after the release and consecutive success of classic video games: Pac-man, Galaga and Centipede. The company is now reportedly venturing into the world of cryptocurrencies.
According to an announcement made earlier this month, the cryptocurrency under works will be dubbed “Atari Token” named after the Atari tokens, the game currency of the company. The name selection is part of the company strategy “to best create value with the assets and the Atari brand” according to Atari Chairman and CEO Frederic Chesnais.
To make this a reality, Atari partnered up with Infinity Networks Ltd., a Gibraltar-based company. This partnership will give way to the development of a “digital entertainment platform” supported mainly by the Atari Token. Atari also plans on incorporating cryptocurrencies into Atari games and as part of character design.
Since the announcement last January, Atari’s stock price has had a significant increase despite the delay of the token sale and the apparent postponement of the first wave of coin offering.
