Twitter replacement social network Gab Paypal and Stripe Accounts have been suspended without explaining the reason why. This happened after that it was known that the perpetrator of the murders of the Tree of Life Synagogue, Robert Bowers, was a regular poster of anti-Semitic stuff in this platform. Gab declared that they were collaborating with authorities in the investigation.

Gab DoS

Gab is a social network that rose to notoriety as a more free Twitter alternative that let their users post things that in other networks they could not do without being banned. in fact, the majority of people in Gab are people that have had their Twitter account banned and were in the search for a new service to post their messages.

Gab presents itself as a freedom of speech defending platform, but the truth is that this defense has made their platform a center for alt-right, neo-Nazi and anti-semitic content, in an intended or a non-intended way. But they jumped into the spotlight this week when they were involved in the Tree of Life Synagogue killings.

Immediately after that, they started being targeted by mass media outlets and called out due to their freedom policy applied in its platform. And then the worst happened.

Gab Paypal And Stripe Accounts Suspended

Paypal sent an email explaining to Gab that they were terminating their contract and also suspending their account without announcing the reasons why. But coincidentally it happened after Gab was called out in the discussion of hate speech that the killings set in motion. Paypal was one of their most important payment providers for its Gab premium services, that let users post more characters than normal posts for a monthly fee.

Also, Stripe had frozen their account due to hosting NSFW content in their platform, something that they had for more than two years without problems for them. But their problems had not come to an end there.

There was still more: Joyent, their hosting provider, also sent an email informing them that due to a supposed breach in their Terms of Service, they would not be able to keep lending their services to Gab. So a full deplatforming attack on this social network was performed.

Cryptocurrencies Would Have Saved The Day

If Gab had used the power of cryptocurrencies, it would have not facing the difficult time that is now facing. Cryptocurrencies are made for this kind of uses when gatekeepers deny services to users just because. Money can be moved and transacted without the oversight of a financial institution or payment providers that impose rules on your business model.
