Ethereum Hotel Launch In China Defies Cryptocurrency Ban

China’s stance about cryptocurrencies has been a strange one. They publicly have banned cryptocurrency trading and have also repeatedly warned their citizens about the perils of dealing with cryptocurrencies through their propaganda apparatus. But, at the same time, they have been very open to initiatives that use blockchain as a tool to approach several problems in the Chinese society.
But in the face of the launch of a particular hotel that will promote Ethereum payments, it seems that the cryptocurrency ban is not as solid as the government wants people to see. The first hotel that will publicly accept Ethereum payments, called the Ethereum hotel, opened its doors to the public on September 24, and it is located in the Sichuan province. it is a luxury hotel consisting of more than 50 rooms in a scenic area of mainland China.
While having already more than three days open, there has not been any official statement regarding the use of cryptocurrencies as payment in the hotel. As we said before, some cryptocurrency related industries have been able to operate without issue in China regardless of the ban. china is the most prolific cryptocurrency mining hub in the world, and Bitmain, the world largest mining hardware manufacturer is a Chinese company.
In this regard, many hotels accept cryptocurrencies all over the world but only through a third party payment processor, but this hotel is different. It encourages payment with Ethereum only, a thing that is rather strange because Ethereum has been regarded as more of a decentralized app running platform and less than a pure cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin or Litecoin.
Another case of hotels around the world accepting cryptocurrency was found in Brazil, in a little hotel near the beach of Parati, dubbed the Bitcoin Hotel. There you can pay with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This kind of adoption is good for tourists and saves them from having to exchange fiat currencies on the run.
