One of the most known and polemical cryptocurrency advocates and evangelists, John McAfee, has reportedly canceled its speech in the Blockchain World Conference, due to some security risks and death threats made to him. This was revealed via the twitter feed of the blockchain conference and McAfee’s own Twitter feed.
Instead, he will give his keynote form an undisclosed location through skype. This is not the first time that the polemical figure has been immersed in this kind of issues. The event, that was gonna be held in Harrah’s Resort & Casino in New Jersey was advertised as the “blockchain’s first truly global event”.
McAfee, a known security expert, founder of the McAfee antivirus company that was later acquired by Intel, is now one of the most controversial and eccentric cryptocurrency advocates and has repeatedly said that his personal security is in danger, and he blames the government about it.
One of the latest scandals that he was involved in was a supposed harassment in his own home, with planes flying above his house and unidentified people circling his house; he informed that he was going underground into hiding on that time as we reported. He is also known for going everywhere with numerous bodyguards carrying guns.
McAfee has been involved in another kind of scandals: he has been accused of charging Initial Coin offerings for a promotional tweet, something that he admitted publicly on his Twitter feed: he was collecting more than $100,000 per promotional tweet, something that he rationalized by saying that for the kind of exposure that the company obtained, it was cheap.
McAfee also has reportedly announced that he is going to run for president of the USA in the next presidential campaign to serve the crypto community. But some are worried that him being associated with the cryptosphere will do more harm than good now that the market is being regulated and in search of legitimacy.
