CRYPTO HOUR To Highlight Major Increase In Crypto Power Consumption

The organizers of ‘Crypto Hour’ are encouraging miners to shut off their mining devices for an hour on March 24, 2018 at 20:30. This endeavour is spearheaded and organized by a Russian environmentalist group who also happen to be experts in mining.
The idea is similar to that of “Earth Hour” which is annually organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Both events are to take place at the same time, with the same visions: social obligations and environmentalism.
The goal behind Crypto Hour is to have participants find and focus on ways to make technology as environment-friendly as possible. According to reports, more than 50 terawatt hours of electricity are spent to power the bitcoin system on an annual basis. Experts have predicted that if this rate does not decrease, the bitcoin network would be consuming electricity equal to the consumption of the rest of the world by the year 2020.
The head motivator behind Crypto Hour, Peter Dvoryankin, who is also the founder of the International Network of Professional Investors in Digital Assets, “CryptoLife” and a member of the Russian Duma Expert Council on Legislative Support for the Development of Financial Technologies, says he wants to advocate for a campaign which pushes for creation of systems that will utilize the excessive heat from mining and for the development of less energy-consuming mining equipment
