Cloudflare's Crypto Week Introduces Access To A New Decentralized Web Protocol

Blockchain and decentralized systems are more than just cryptocurrencies, even if these are the most known and functional applications of this concept. Yet, blockchain could be the new tool that fuels the new generation of the internet as we know it. Cloudflare, an important internet content delivery, domain and internet security firm has presented a new web protocol that uses decentralized ledger technology to secure the availability of content in the web, this as a step marked in what they have called it first Crypto Week, where they will reveal a new application of this tech to make the internet better.
The first tech that Cloudflare has released is a gateway for the new internet protocol called IPFS, an acronym for InterPlanetary File System, a content-based delivery system that works in a very different way that the currently used protocol. Currently, in this centralized internet, users normally input directions to resources like web pages and the system delivers the content available in the given direction. There are some problems with this approach: being the content all centralized, if the server is down or suffers hardware fails, the info would not be available and the page would not be displayed.
The new approach tells the network what to look, instead of where to look; the platform with the existing resources will determine which is the best path to retrieve these resources. The content would be redundant, stored in hundreds or thousands of nodes of the network and the failure in a node won’t affect site availability. This would also ensure that old sites will be always available visit in any time, even of the central server does not exist anymore.
The tech is already available to test, and it can be accessed from any browser out there. in fact, they are encouraging users and content providers to try it and experiment with a next-gen internet. To know more technical details about Cloudflare’s new solution, visit their blog post here.
