Bitcoin Wallet Identifier Discovered in Fortnite Season 6 Hacks

With the excitement around Fornite Season 6, Malwarebytes Labs discovered a computer virus from one of many victims’ Fortnite hacks that lists bitcoin’s wallets. The California security agency found the malware after going through many fake Fortnite hacks who seek users to participate in surveys or download the presumed hack app. It led them to detect trojan.malpack. The trojan reportedly stole the encrypted data and identified bitcoin wallets by cheating users to download an infected executable containing the virus.
“Once the initial(dot)EXE, [the malicious file], runs on the target system, it performs some basic enumeration on details specific to the infected computer. It then attempts to send data via a POST command to an /index.php file in the Russian Federation, courtesy of the IP address 5(dot)101(dot)78(dot)169,” researchers found. “Some of the most notable things it takes an interest in are browser session information, cookies, Bitcoin wallets, and also Steam sessions.”
Players who are trying to bypass the game restrictions often end up on looking for a tutorial on internet, including youtube. Malwarebytes Labs subscribed to many of these channels for its investigation and found bogus hacking tips and tricks that were offering everything from free season six passes to free V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-app token to enable additional content purchase in the game.
“Offering a false file under the pretext of fraud is as old as it gets, but that does not make cybercriminals to stop hunting. In this scenario, cheaters get cheated by they own desires and get some sort of malware as a parting gift,” Malwarebytes wrote.
The Malwarebytes investigation has not reported any bitcoin stolen. But the report is not sure to which extent trojan.malpack has affected his victims until the date. The trojan launches in the game weakening the systems and crippling the system firewall .it is possible that you can make changes without having the administrator’s consent.
The trojan also has been found to snoop on the user’s secret activities, which would lead to irreversible damage as soon as bitcoin is concerned. For example, criminals are able to steal the contents of a bitcoin wallet, take private keys, and the others option to make the attack easier. These treacherous attempts have been made in the past, and Reddit is full of stories.
