In a surprising move, Archos has announced that they will launch a new hard wallet the next June. The French multimedia, tablet, and portable player manufacturer now ventures in the cryptocurrency hardware segment. The product, dubbed the “Safe Mini T” will have a black and white screen and hardware buttons to review and confirm transactions.
According to Archos, the device will support operations with 6 cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Dash, Litecoin, and ZCash. It will store the private keys in the same device, and will protect the device with an alphanumeric PIN code (up to 9 digits) to open the wallet. Archos informed that the suggested price will be $62 dollars, cheaper than the Ledger Nano S and the Trezor wallet.
In the case of a theft, the owner can still retrieve the wallet contents through a system of backups managed by the same wallet.
With more and more cryptocurrency theft, hacks and incidents like the Coinbase legal battle with the IRS, we expect that this kind of wallets will become more popular in the next months.
