A Thai affluent crypto trader, named Chad Elwartowski, is in danger of facing the death penalty for constructing seastead. The construction is considered a contravention of a Thai criminal code, section 119.
Building Seasteading Risks Death Penalty
The crypto trader, Chad Elwartowski built the Seasteading on the off coast of Phuket. In reaction, the Thai officials have filed a formal complaint, the charge being the violation of Thailand’s criminal code, section 119. That section of Thai law stated that “Whoever, does any act with the intent to cause the Country or any part thereof to descend under the sovereignty of any foreign State, or to deteriorate the independence of the State, shall be punished with death or imprisonment for life.”
The Thai government believes the act of Elwartowski and his wife, Supranee Thepdet by building a seastead or a homestead on the sea implies an attempt to create an independent state and threaten the sovereignty of Thailand.
The charge leveled against Elwartowski, and his wife, Supranee Thepdet is dangerous, and a police officer informed the Bangkok post that the structure would be pulled down soon. Also, the firm that constructed the seastead is also under investigation at the moment.
Also, the Thai government officials argued that the structure is a barrier to oil ships bound for Phuket. Equally, given the reporting and handling of the situation, it seems self-evident that Elwartowski took no efforts to obtain permission to build the platform.
Meanwhile, the couple stated that they are beyond the limits of the Thai authority, but the maritime authority begs to differ. If the charges are filed, the couple will likely both be arrested, and the structure will likely be torn down according to the authority.
Crypto And Seasteading
The Bangkok Post also reported that crypto traders are leading the charge for the establishment of micronations by exploiting a loophole in the international. One of the oldest micronations Sealand has long had an interest in Bitcoin. Equally, a Seasteading group known as Blueseed obtained a $100,000 investment from a Bitcoin angel investment group recently.
Also, a group known as Seasteading institute believe that Seasteading is the best way to allow pioneers to test a new form of government peacefully. Most of the ideas shared by the seasteaders, such as sovereignty from government, independence, are also deeply held beliefs within the cryptocurrency community. This is why there is an overlap of interest and promotion of Seasteading by crypto enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, some of the ideas for seasteading were born with Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, whose Sea Org spent most of its time roaming the world at sea. Today, most of its operations are land-based.
